Protecting Your Oral Health
Regular oral exams, ideally twice a year, allow your dentist to identify any oral health issues and make a plan to treat them accordingly.
During a dental checkup, your dentist will examine your teeth, gums, jaw and bite to evaluate their health. You may also have dental X-rays, an oral cancer screening and other diagnostic procedures. We will use these tools and techniques to assist us with diagnosing your oral condition, monitoring your ongoing dental health, and planning treatment.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer is a serious disease that can affect any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues. Your dentist will check for it during your routine exam. Regular screenings allow the best chance of early diagnosis and treatment for an ideal outcome.
Keeping Your Smile Healthy at Home
To keep your smile healthy between dental appointments, be sure to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time, and floss at least once a day.
Professional Dental Hygiene Cleaning
During your routine visit, your dental hygienist will thoroughly clean your teeth and gums to prevent harmful oral health conditions from developing.
To begin the cleaning, your hygienist will use a scaler to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Once these have been cleared away, they will use a special tool and gritty toothpaste to polish your teeth. A thorough flossing is the finishing touch, ensuring that your teeth are as clean as can be, above and below the gum line.
Fluoride Treatment
We may recommend fluoride treatment for patients at a higher risk of tooth decay. Fluoride is a natural mineral that can help rebuild the minerals in tooth enamel to prevent or reverse tooth decay.
